About Sound Progression back

Sound Progression was started because a surprising  few  in the audio industry, which includes dealers, salespeople, installers, and manufactures, have any good technical knowledge of what makes a room sound good.   Some salespeople even say that, "The room is 50% of the sound of your system!"  and then can't offer many solutions.  Better audio/video magazines have been trying to inform us about the importance of the room's effect on sound for several years, but the information doesn't seem to make it into individuals' homes.

Who Am I?

I've spent more than 25 years working in the audio industry as a technician, salesperson, retail store and service manager, technical designer and technical troubleshooter.  Most of my energy was in the sales of high-end
audio/video systems.  I'd have to call myself an audiophile and videophile with strong opinions.

Many of the systems I've sold were state-of-the-art and installed and set-up by excellent people.  I wish I could say that $100,000 systems always sounded 10 times or even twice as good as the $10,000 systems but I can't.  It could be that even less expensive equipment is getting better but, more importantly, I believe none of the rooms I put audio/video systems in were given much thought acoustically.  For the most part I installed systems where they would fit.  After much studying, listening, testing and correcting room problems I believe the room is the most critical component in any sound system.

Now I help audio/video retailers, contractors, architects and home owners make good choices and avoid common issues to improve the performance of their audio/video systems and rooms and reduce unwanted noise.

I have a BA in Mathematics with a minor in Physics from the University of Washington.
