General Questions Q&A back
I've found that there are about a dozen questions I commonly
ask to determine the initial needs when someone contacts me for help.
Most of them seem simple at first but may require you to work harder
than first thought to answer.
Are there any noise concerns either into or out of a room (bedroom,
garage, bathroom, home theater and etc)? If so, how quiet do you need
those rooms to be (very quiet to don't care)?
Are there any limitations to the room or unusual features to the
room like windows, doors, a fireplace, furniture, pictures seating or
speaker locations?
Are you concerned with the appearance of the room? Acoustical
materials are often hung on walls and seating or speaker locations often
need to be moved to improve sound quality.
Will you be doing the work yourself or will you use a contractor?
What kind of Audio/Video or sound producing equipment will be in the
room? Have you had a previous system?
Do you have an architect, designer, A/V dealer or builder working with
you?
Do you have a budget for the room? If so, does that include acoustical
and noise control consulting, materials and the interior design?
Have you done any browsing of the web or talking to
someone about noise isolation or sound quality?
Have you been in a good room (quiet, stereo or home
theater) or a bad room (could hear the toilet flush in another room or
if a few people are talking at once you have a hard time understanding
or it seems very loud)? Is this new construction, a remodel or an
existing space an what are the dimensions of the existing or new space?
Do you need help managing (or monitoring) the other
trades, the A/V dealer, making equipment choices or design decisions?
